The very first General Conference of the Global Methodist Church was held in Costa Rica. It was a Spirit-filled time as worship took place and big decisions were made. I wanted to share two of the most notable ones with you.
Our very own, Rev. Dr. Leah Hidde-Gregory was elected as one of six interim Bishops. She is now Bishop Gregory and we celebrate that! Their work will be guiding the church forward in mission and vision as the Lord continues to grow this spirit-led denomination.
In a final legislative act, delegates voted to change the Global Methodist Church’s mission statement and introduce a vision statement. The new mission statement reads: “The Global Methodist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe.” The newly adopted vision statement declares: “Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the Global Methodist Church envisions multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ throughout the earth who flourish in scriptural holiness as we worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.”
This change sought to bring to light a distinctive Methodist characteristic, scriptural holiness. In response to this change, following the Story series we are in, I will be doing a three-week series on the new vision and mission statement as we adopt it as our own.
