Church Family,
I am blown away by your generosity at the Chili Cook Off on Sunday! The final total ended up being $11,406. This money goes directly into the youth budget to send our kids to camp. Wing and a Prayer raised with most with over $3600! However, the youth are truly the winners of the Chili Cook Off because we get to send them on life changing trips.
Sunday was such a fun time as a church family. I loved seeing everyone dressed up, having fun, laughing, and making memories together. Also, shout out to the Three Amigos Table (also known as the Misfit toys) who joined me in forming a table!
We are coming up on the Season of Lent, which is 40 days of prayer and fasting leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It leads us to Easter. This Sunday, we will close our Means of Grace Series by talking about fasting.
Ole Hallesby once said this about fasting, “The purpose of fasting is to loosen to some degree the ties which bind us to the world of material things and our surroundings as a whole, in order that we may concentrate all our spiritual powers upon the unseen and eternal things.”
What are those things that we are holding tightly to that we need to loosen? What are those things that bind us to material things? These are important questions to ponder as we prepare for this season together. My hope and prayer is that this season of Lent is a time for all of us to focus upon the “unseen and eternal things.”
I hope to see you this Sunday as we talk about fasting! (Of course, we will still have coffee and donuts during the Fellowship time!)
Blessings,
Pastor Hayley
